North River Arts Committee

In 2007, the North River Commission (NRC) launched a five year effort to explore how arts and culture can be integrated into its broader strategies for economic development, education, housing, parks and open space in order to improve the quality of life for communities on Chicago's northwest side.  Over the next five years, NRC developed new partnerships with local artists, residents, businesses and cultural organizations and implemented dozens of projects that utilized arts and culture to improve communication, strengthen local schools, draw new visitors to area shops and restaurants, and activate much needed park space.

Today, the North River Arts Committee continues its work to:

  • Promote and support cultural events throughout our neighborhoods that celebrate our community’s diversity and history.

  • Build a strong, local arts network and use it to link artists to resources, as well as  promoting local arts and culture.

  • Enhance student learning through Artist-in-Residence and other arts programs in schools.

  • Install public art which celebrates our local history and culture, beautifies our neighborhoods, and promotes strategic community action.

  • Brand and market the North River communities as a destination for arts and culture.
