ARTISTS OF THE MONTH!

December 2014
Frank Styburski

Frank Styburski photographs abstracted patterns and shapes of intense color, found in everyday things. He lives in Chicago, and works on its streets, where he developed his skills, and honed his eye for pictures. He shows his work in galleries and nontraditional exhibit spaces, where people gather to work, play, and do business. He has participated in numerous group and solo shows in collaboration with community groups, arts advocacy organizations and small businesses. He is currently affiliated with SiLO Art Space.

Much of Frank's work is done in Chicago's streets, where millions of his neighbors look at the same things that he does.   He tries to see through the static, and make sense of the deliberate messages, and the accidental ones that are created from fragments of overlapping information.  He tries to isolate the elements of a situation that  are interesting, intriguing, or beautiful,- by simplifying their context.  Frank's aim is to make pictures that connect with his viewers in a positive way.  His goal is to create images with impact, that spark interest, and delight.  He likes to focus on strong color, shapes, contrast, abstraction and situational irony.
